杏树林医学文献的文章内容主要来自国际最新的杂志（医学文献），因为医学领域最新最重要的内容都会发表到杂志上，他们从这些杂志中选取那些影响比较大的论文，研究他们的进展，通过翻译加工整理到自己的数据库中，现在他们平均每天更新文章数在20－30篇左右。

“药厂有很个很大的需求就是怎样把它们的新药、新针、治疗、学术方面的一些东西让医生知道，”杏树木医生文献创始人张遇升告诉我们，“但是现在让医生知道的成本很高，如何找到一个效果很好成本很低让医生了解他们信息的一个渠道很不容易，我们试图在这个方面创造这样一种工具。”
既然药厂有需要，那么这可能就会成为他们的盈利模式的一种，通过向药厂提供服务来收费。“我们希望做医生的分众传媒，抓住医生的眼球，帮助厂家去推广。”
张遇升说他们开始创业时就确定要给专业的医学人士做个东西，他们把医生的需求列了一张清单，找到那个竞争对手没有做而他们又可以做的，他发现文献是一个刚性的需求，现在没有人做好，所以做了这个。
张遇升是北京协和医学院的博士，曾任美国最大的医疗保险公司Wellpoint临床战略经理。创始团队其他成员也有很高的背景，有临床医学博士，有负责过开发Windows Live中国区网站开发制作的人，团队目前一共12个人。
